By my calculations, you could exist in living memory for a global average of 178 years, assuming your bloodline is continued for at leasy 4 generation after yours. This is based on two statistics and a little personal experience:

The global average human lifespan is roughly 70 years.
The average global age at which a human has their first child is 27 years.
My grandmother told me stories about her grandmother.

Basic maths will tell you that you will be an average of 54 years old when you have your first grandchild. Unfortunately, you’ll be dead when your first great-grandchild arrives, but hopefully your memory will be carried on through this generation (at age 81) to your great-great-grandchild (age 108). If your G-G-grandchild is told stories of you by your grandchild, and remembers them to their statistically average death at age 70, you will have existed in some form, in living memory, for 178 years.

Of course, this changes if your GGGC tells stories of you to their offspring, but I’m not sure how likely that is. I don’t have personal experience of that, as of yet.

She’s obviously old enough to see it happening and to form her own opinions about it. Substantive discussion and critical thinking should never be discouraged, no matter what the age of the person. I watched her vids back when she was making them too, and she’s sharp as a tack.

At first I was a bit taken aback to see such a young girl talking about slut-shaming and, specifically, sex. She can’t be more than twelve or thirteen! But then I remembered that I was probably about her age when I first started getting slut-shamed and I figure she’s old enough to already be receiving it too so you know what? Good on you, girl.

I remember watching cartoons when I was about seven or eight, laying on the ground with my arms wrapped around a pillow and my legs starfished out to either side, enjoying some Tailspin or Gummi Bears, and my grandmother spotting me in that position. I don’t remember what she said specifically, but I perfectly recall the way the venom in her voice made me feel tiny and disgusting while she commanded me to close my goddamn legs because that’s not how good girls sit (not a criticism ever leveled at my brother).

I remember regularly being chased around my house throughout high school to escape my mom’s attacks and worrying if the tiny lock on the bathroom door would be strong enough to withstand her throwing her entire body weight against it, trying to break it down as she’d scream about what a slut, a whore, I am, over and over. Except for a tiny peck-on-the-lips kiss I’d encountered during a game of Truth or Dare when I was twelve, I had no romantic physical contact until I turned eighteen, so being accused of slutting out was the most misplaced accusation she could possibly invent. But I was a female, and in my family (on the maternal side), that meant you were a slut until proven innocent. My grandmother did it to my mother and her sisters and they did it to their daughters, passing down their internalized misogyny and hatred of sex to each new generation of women in our family.

Finding out that sex can be something other than “A thing you just have to do to keep your husband from leaving you” (true quote, from my mother to me!) was world-changing for me. This is where my sex positive comics come from. This is why it’s so important for me to talk about sex and show it being fun and healthy. I do this because I can’t go back in time and protect my younger self, but maybe I can reach another young person who’s in the same place I was at that age.

So yeah, young-looking-lady in those animated .gifs. I’m glad you know sex is not something you should be ashamed of and that people who try to shame you for it are wrong. You rock the fuck on. Good on you.

An experimental recipe: Cheesy Chicken Bacon Hug

This is an experimental recipe we’re trying at the new place. This serves 1.

Fry a chicken breast until each side is very lightly browned
Remove the chicken from the pan and place it on a piece of tin foil, roughly 2.5 times the chicken breast’s length on each side.
Sprinkle a strong grated cheese over the top of it.
Cover the cheese with bacon, widthwise, tucking the ends of the bacon under the breast.
Wrap the cheesy-chicken-bacon hug in the tin foil.
Cook the chicken in a preheated oven, 200C for 20 minutes.
Unwrap, place on a plate with a mixed salad.
Eat.

This turned out very well, but with certain downsides. 3 of us, with different culinary backgrounds, ate this with a mixed-leaf avocado salad with red pepper. We’ve proposed some changes to the recipe, but the above one works just fine. The new one is…

So, yesterday I had my final exam. It was kind of a weird one to end on, done in 22 minutes of a maximum of 90, left the hall at the earliest opportunity (60 mins). This left me with 38 minutes in which to do whatever I wanted, as long as it involved not talking, moving, or looking at anything. So, of course, I figured out a Diamond Square algorithm variant for triangles, and then a variant for cubes and tetrahedrons that provide fractal density maps, or possibly fractal heightmaps over time.

Well, you’ve gotta do something.

Today, in about an hour, I’m moving out of student accomodation. It’s weird to think that it’s been 9 months since I arrived here, red and sweaty from lugging an overburdened suitcase with only one wheel 200 miles down the spine of England. (Although, admittedly, I had a 9 day rest in the middle >.>) It’s even weirder to think that I’ve done a chronological third of my degree. I still remember arriving and running around, trying to get bedding and kitchen stuff before the places closed, and, once I’d gotten them, trying to figure out where I should put them. I mean.. I own a vegetable peeler. And a duvet! Come on, you have to admit, that’s weird.

I keep wondering if I’m going to get an internal montage of events relating to the year, the highs and the lows, like in a movie, but it hasn’t happened yet. Although you probably don’t get a montage if it seems like yesterday, that might be flashback territory.

But, that’s it. Time’s up on this year, and I’m moving in with some friends for the summer. The first year of university has been educational, but a disproportionate amount of the education has been in life, rather than in computer science. I’m going to put that down to prior education. I get my results on 18/07, so, in a month, I’ll know how I’ve done. I’m feeling fairly confident on this one.

Almost everything I own (excepting 2 20l boxes that’re still sitting in my old bedroom at my parents’ house) is currently sitting on or direct next to my new old bed. I’m waiting for the call to say that the car’s arrived. Time to move on, and the weather couldn’t be better(!)

I do not echo the above sentiment, as cities would be destroyed on a daily basis, and thousands would die to feed the insatiable hunger of these gargantuan continent-beasts. Still, they would be a sight indescribable.
